25 March 2013 – The organizers of the annual conference and exhibition, Localization World, are producing an Asian version of the event in Singapore, from 10-12 April 2013. Localization World brings together delegates who are engaged in the business of localizing a product or service in terms of language, culture and appearance. Speakers at the conference include representatives from Autodesk, Google, IBM and Microsoft. More than 200 delegates representing all manner of industries are expected to attend.

Ulrich Henes, chair of the Localization World program committee, the conference co-organizer and president of the Localization Institute, says “Localization World Singapore is the actualization of the desire of many of our Asian counterparts to host this event in the east. Singapore is home to a significant number of companies that have international and regional headquarters based here and it is therefore the appropriate place to host the event.”

Donna Parrish, publisher of the magazine MultiLingual and co-organizer of Localization World, commented that “This event is valuable for companies and organizations that recognize the importance and benefits of reaching multicultural and multiethnic audiences within their own countries. Our program consists of proven strategies on managing multiple languages content, translation tools, quality control, and launching websites and products for multiple language markets”.

The conference will be preceded by a day of full day and half day workshops, as well as a Life Sciences Round Table. The Life Sciences Round Table will focus on the overall market developments in the Asian-Pacific region with particular emphasis on the ever-changing regulatory requirements in the life sciences market and the impact these changes have on product labeling for medical devices.

The full day workshops include Content Strategy: A Primer for Localization Practitioners, led by Scott Abel, founder of The Content Wrangler, and East Meets West.

The Content Strategy workshop addresses the implications of organizations whose departments work in silos, whereas the consumer perceives content from across the organization as part of a single brand: web content, social documentation, user-generated content, web apps, social media, mobile and so on.

East meets West is an interactive workshop about building successful business relationships between East and West. This workshop does not simply address cross-cultural issues as the workshop facilitators Andrew Lawless (Dig-IT!), and Shirley Yeng (EC Innovations, Inc.) share real life experiences from their 16 years of successful business collaboration.

There are three tracks to the main conference: Business, Localization Management and Technical.

The Business track addresses the impact of the shifting global economy on the localization and translation industries. It commences with the Keynote Speaker, Manu Bhaskaran, whose address The Shifting Global Economy will outline important new trends and shifts that mark the post-crisis global economy. He will discuss how geopolitical shifts will affect economic growth and currencies; changes in how large global companies decide on the location of manufacturing and services activities; and so on.

The other two streams of the conference look at ways of managing content strategy and the development of globalized mobile applications. The full conference programme is available at

The exhibition features international and Asian vendors who will exhibit the latest tools for the industry to use.

Localization World Singapore is primarily sponsored by globalization and localization service providers including Lionbridge, Scribers International, Verztec Consulting, EQHO Communications and Hunnect Limited. The international globalization provider, Moravia, is also sponsoring the conference dinner.

Up to 80 speakers will convene under the WIT umbrella to discuss leading edge trends such as mobile, social media, group deals and learn about how changing customer behaviour is impacting in markets such as China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan.

“Disruption is taking place at all fronts – from the economy to natural disasters to technology and changing customer behaviour. WIT will be the place to focus thought leadership in how companies can navigate their way through this disruptive, confusing landscape,” said Yeoh Siew Hoon, Founder and Editor of Web In Travel.

The WIT Conference takes place alongside ITB Asia at Suntec City 18-19 October 2011.

WIT-Web In Travel is Asia’s leading travel distribution, marketing and technology conference. 2011 is the seventh year the conference will be run. It was started by journalist Yeoh Siew Hoon.
WIT is different to traditional conferences in terms of content, delivery and attitude. The content is deep, rich and meaningful. The delivery is varied, diverse and impactful. The conference has an attitude that challenges speakers to be at their best – no sales speeches and platitudes, but provoking and thinking – and delegates to question, discuss, debate and challenge. With each WIT, the conversation gets better and the discussion more interactive.
In 2007, WIT introduced questions by SMS and allowed audience voting by SMS as well for best debators, best speakers and best pitches. In 2010, WIT, in association with Circos Brand Karma, built a interactive Q&A platform using Twitter for the conference. We are using technology to reach out to an ever widening network of colleagues with similar passion, engaging them through Facebook, Twitter, blogs, podcasts, newsletters and micro events, WIT*e – Inspiration & Mentoring networking forums, leading up to the main conference to be held on the 18-19 October, 2011 at Suntec City in Singapore.
